How to host a comedy show in Bangalore

A practical plan for running a stand-up or open mic night in Bangalore: venues, audience, pricing, promotion and the door.

Know the Bangalore audience

A large working-professional audience that is used to paying for weekday and weekend shows, and many English and Kannada open mics.

Go to two or three shows in the area you want to run in before you book a venue — note the crowd size, ticket price and how the room is set up.

Find the right room

Organizers commonly use Indiranagar, Koramangala and HSR Layout cafes, breweries and small auditoriums. A 40–120 seat room is a sensible first step.

Ask about revenue share vs a flat fee, a working mic and stage light, a minimum food-and-drinks spend, and whether the venue will post the show on its own social handles.

  • Confirm capacity in writing
  • Agree the split and when it's paid
  • Check the stage, mic and seating plan
  • Ask who handles music licensing if any music is played

Getting there

Traffic makes start times slip; put a 15-minute buffer before the first set and say so on the event page.

Add a map link, landmark and entry gate to the event page so the venue doesn't field the same questions all evening.

Price and timing

Friday and Saturday evenings sell best; weekday shows work near tech parks if they start after 8 pm.

Check what similar shows in the same area charge on the city's event pages and price within that range unless your lineup is clearly different. Use a limited early-bird tier in the first week.

Promote it

Short clips from the comics outperform posters. Ask every comic to post a story with the ticket link, and share in community WhatsApp groups where you're already a member.

Local meme and events pages in Bangalore can work, but ask about their rates and audience first.

Run the door

Scan QR passes on a phone at the entrance, open doors 30 minutes early, and keep a short walk-in waitlist for no-shows.
