Pick the format
Open mics build community and need little budget; showcases (4–6 comics) sell better; a solo special needs an established name.
Decide the format first — it drives venue size, ticket price and lineup.
Find a venue
Cafes, bars and small auditoriums with 40–150 seats are ideal. Ask about revenue share vs flat rent, mic and lighting, and whether they promote to their own list.
A slightly-too-small room that is full beats a big room that is half empty — laughter is contagious.
Build the lineup
Confirm comics in writing with set lengths and pay (flat fee, door split or travel only). Get photos and short bios for the event page.
Price and list the show
Most club shows in Indian metros price between ₹299 and ₹799. Use an early-bird tier for the first week to create urgency.
List it, add the lineup, and set a per-order limit so one person can't hoard seats.
Promote for two weeks
Clips from comics outperform posters. Ask each comic to post a story with the link. Use WhatsApp groups and the venue's handles.
Run the door
Scan QR passes on a phone at the entry. Open doors 30 minutes early and keep a short waitlist for walk-ins.
- Charge the scanner phone
- Test a pass before doors
- Keep the guest list in the free-links tab
FAQ
Small venue shows can run on a revenue share with the venue, so the main costs are comic fees and promotion. Use the event budget calculator to plan.
