Event photography on a budget

Get photos and video you can use for promotion without a big production budget.

Decide what you need

Write a shot list: crowd wide shots, performers, sponsor branding, candid moments, the entrance. Three great photos are worth more than three hundred average ones.

Who can shoot

Photography students, hobbyists building a portfolio, and local creators will often shoot for a fee, credit, entry or a mix. Agree usage rights in writing.

Phones are fine

A recent phone in good light is enough for social media. Shoot from the side of the stage, avoid flash during performances, and clean the lens.

Get permission

Tell attendees on the event page and at the entrance that photos will be taken. Respect anyone who asks not to be photographed.

Use them fast

Post a handful of photos within 24 hours while people are still talking about the event, tag performers and sponsors, and add the best to your organizer page gallery.
